What “free” actually includes
Sample portfolio access is free with no usage cap. You get the dashboard, strategy views, Profit and Loss, metrics, research, alerts, reports, and import/export on a realistic book we maintain so the product is not an empty shell. Manual mode is also free: two accounts and twenty-five trades, enough to reconstruct a small personal book and see how structures look when you type them.
That split exists because sample data is the best way to evaluate CoveredLoop, and a small manual book is the best way to see your own lots without connecting a broker yet. Neither path is a trial that expires at midnight. Create an account, open the sample, and stay as long as the product is useful.
When a paid plan is worth it
Pay when you want CoveredLoop to follow a live Tradier account: balances, day marks, holdings, and activity (ACH, dividends, interest, fees) without retyping. Official OAuth for live. Paper uses the sandbox token and stays a separate book with its own banner so you cannot confuse it with cash. Paid plans also lift the Manual cap if you are keying a larger book and are not ready for a broker link.
Monthly is month-to-month. Annual is the lower effective monthly cost. Lifetime is one payment. Card details never touch CoveredLoop servers — Square handles checkout. You can cancel from Settings. A current first-month offer, when shown on the cards below, is a coupon at checkout, not a different product.
What you are paying for (and not for)
You are paying for portfolio analytics: covered-call and wheel structure cards, credit-spread risk and return-on-capital, research into a sample trade, journal and P&L, multi-account totals, and reports you can download or email. You are not paying CoveredLoop to execute trades as a broker-dealer, and you are not receiving investment advice. Tradier remains the broker. CoveredLoop remains the book.
If you only need to learn the interface, stay on Sample. If you want to compare a live IRA against a manual taxable account, connect Tradier on one book and keep the other manual. Combined views honor the accounts you select; paper is excluded from combined P&L unless you turn it on.
How this compares to a spreadsheet
Spreadsheets can track a covered-call lot. They rarely survive the third roll, the first assignment, and the week you forget to mark the short call. CoveredLoop is opinionated about structures so premium yield, net investment, and unrealized P&L share a definition with the dashboard. The product tour is the visual version of that claim. Insights is the written one.
Pricing should be boring once you know which data source you need. The cards below are the same cards as the homepage. Start free. Upgrade only for live marks or a larger manual book.
Checkout, coupons, and what does not change
Creating an account never requires a card. You sign up, open Sample, and use research, journaling, covered calls, and credit spreads on that book. If you later choose Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime, Square collects the payment. CoveredLoop never stores the card number. A coupon field is on the checkout form; when a first-month offer is running, that code can be prefilled so you are not hunting for it.
Switching plans later is a Settings job, not a new account. Linking Tradier is OAuth for live and a sandbox token for paper. Disconnecting does not delete the CoveredLoop login. Sample and Manual remain available if you cancel a paid plan, subject to the free Manual caps. That is the whole commercial story: free to learn the book, paid to follow a live broker connection or to type a larger manual book.
